It’s no surprise that many painters choose to live in Christchurch New Zealand. The city is renowned for its mild winters, sunny weather and white sand beaches. This area of New Zealand has a number of world class art galleries as well as top of the range museums. There are also many cultural events that take place throughout the year. Here we’ve listed some of the festivals which occur in this scenic city every year.
Painting Studios
The International Painting Competition is held annually from mid-September to the middle of March. This competition allows local artists to present their artwork in the style of international painters. If you have never been to this exhibition, it’s well worth taking the time to visit.

Another excellent option for painters in Christchurch is the annual Art Walk, which runs throughout the month of November/December. The event is hosted by the Museum and Art Gallery of Canterbury (MAA). This is an excellent opportunity to see some of the local art and gain an understanding of how artists work Orlando Painting. During November/ December, you can enjoy the South Island’s winter wonderland, the winter garden theme. Each artist will create a tree talk and display their work during the day. At night you will enjoy fireworks and light show to create a magical atmosphere. Another popular event in November/ December for both artists and non-artists alike is the New Zealand Painting & Sculpture Fair. This fair allows people from all around the country the opportunity to view local and international artists’ work and purchase work. This fair runs throughout the month and includes a wide variety of painting and sculpture pieces from local and international artists.
In addition to the above-mentioned festivals, there are many other events and workshops throughout the year that painters in Christchurch can participate in. For example, there is a regular painting workshop for up-and-coming painters held at the Central Business District Film Centre on the last Saturday of every month.
